The eight-part series Dough (Deg) commissioned by SVT is set to premiere in the fall 2021.
Paris-based Newen Distribution is handling international sales.
Multi-awarded director Levan Akin (And Then We Danced, Real Humans), has co-created and co-written the premium show with Mattias J Skoglund (Losers). Akin will direct the opening episode, with Skoglund and Måns Månsson (The Real Estate) co-directing the remaining episodes.
Dough deals with greed, revenge, and unlikely alliances in a world where appearances are everything.
The story centres on two women from opposite ends of society.
Malou is a business woman, obsessed with social status, but whose latest venture has gone wrong. When she comes across a bag containing SEK 47 million in cash from a robbery, she decides to open a bakery as a money laundering venture.
Liana, is a debt-ridden single mum, left in the lurch by her boyfriend who got caught for the SEK 47 million robbery. Everyone is convinced that he hid the money, and Liana is drawn into the hunt for the hidden loot against her will.
Her and Malou’s path will cross in a way that they could never have imagined.
In the title roles are Helena af Sandeberg (Alex, Quicksand) as Malou and Bianca Kronlöf (Thin Ice, Underdog) as Liana.
Co-stars include Eva Melander (Border), Johan Hedenberg (The Sandhamn Murders), Philip Oros (Blinded), Sunil Munshi (The Girl Who Played with Fire) and Lena Nilsson (The Sandhamn Murders).
Cinematographers Ita Zbroniec-Zajt (July 22, The Yard) and Joe Maples (Gentlemen & Gangsters) are attached to the series produced by Lisa Berggren Eyre and Martin Söder for Nexiko. The company’s co-founder Lars Beckung is executive producer.
The series is co-produced by SVT, Inland Film, with support from Film Capital Stockholm and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
SVT’s Head of Drama Anna Croneman says she expects the show to be “both an entertaining and exciting series about the pursuit of the perfect life”.
