Exclusive: The Icelandic drama will have its world premiere on Thursday May 16 as part of the Critics’ Week in Cannes.

Hlynur Pálmason’s highly anticipated second feature after the acclaimed Winter Brothers is one of seven features competing at the prestigious Cannes sidebar.  Star actor Ingvar E. Sigurðsson plays an off-duty police chief who suspects a local man of having had an affair with his late wife, who died in a tragic accident. His obsession starts to endanger himself and his loved ones. Other actors include Hilmir Snær Guðnason, Sara Dögg Ásgeirsdóttir, Björn Ingi Hilmarsson and newcomer Ída Mekkín Hlynsdóttir 

The film was produced by Anton Máni Svansson of Join Motion Pictures, in co-production with Denmark’s Snowglobe, Sweden’s Hob AB, Film i Väst, RUV, DR, support from the Icelandic Film Centre, the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Creative Europe.

The film opens September 6 in Iceland via Sena. 

New Europe Film Sales’ other films on its Cannes slate include Greece’s The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea by Syllas Tzoumerkas, co-produced with Sweden, as well as Ulaa Salim’s hard-hitting Danish drama Sons of Denmark, Anna Odell’s second feature X&Y, the Latvian/Polish animated feature Jacob, Mimmi and the Talking Dogs and Norwegian animated  Cattle Hill by Lise I.
