The Media Agreement for 2012-2014 announced last week by the Danish Minister of Culture Uffe Elb

The Danish broadcasting corporation DR will get an extra DKK72 million for children's programmes (including its new channel for children with news broadcasts for kids) while TV2 Danmark's new 24h regional channels will benefit from an additional DKK63 million. Plans to privatise the channel have also been abandoned.

The 2012-1014 Agreement, which is a supplement to the 2010 Media Agreement, was signed off by a majority in Parliament. Other major points in the document include an increase in TV licence fee from the current annual DKK 2,352 per household to DKK 2,414 in 2014, DR's continued commitment to outsource production to independent producers to the same level as today, a reduction of rules on public service contracts which will give DR and TV2 greater flexibility in their programming activities, and the reintroduction of the ban on production placement in TV programmes.

The Public Service Pool (PSP) - which supported in the past successful series such as Lærkevej and Rita on TV2 via the Danish Film Institute - will get DKK30 million per year, and advertisements and product placements in programmes supported by PSP will be banned.

Commenting on the Media Agreement, DR's Secretary General Maria Rørbye Rønn said: "We are in the midst of an ambitious period of development at DR, mostly with TV where we are in the process of developing more standout and brave public service content for our channels. We can now get started with the work."
