For Thomas Henriksen, director of Salaam DK, the Swedish Josef Fares of Lebanese origin is a pioneer among the new multi-cultural filmmakers and his work from the comedy Jalla Jalla! to the drama Leo masterfully explores different themes cherished by first or second generation immigrants in Scandinavia. Fares will be one of the guest stars of the Multicool seminar tomorrow Saturday 29 and will receive the special Salaam DK Award. Fares along with his Swedish counterpart Reza Bagher of Iranian origin (Popular Music from Vittula), the Norwegian-Iraki Hisham Zaman (Winterland), the Danish-Palestinian Omar Sharwagi (Go with Peace Jamil - photo) and Kaywan Mohsen of Afghan-Iran background (Eye for Eye), will take part in a panel to discuss their work and storytelling.
Type-casting will be the subject of panel with Danish actress Fadime Turan (Pizza King) and actor Janus Nabil Bakrawi (Cecilie), and producing and distributing films by immigrant Danes will be discussed by Zentropa's Meta Louise Foldager (producer of Go With Peace Jamil) and Ib Tardini, currently working with Afghan-born Manyar Parwani on his feature debut DK Land.
On Sunday, during the 'Talent Meeting' at the Edison teatret, co-organised by Salaam:DK with C:ntact and Odense Filmværksted, Manyar Parwani will give a master-class and Lommefilm, organiser of the Danish Mobile Film Festival, will discuss ‘New storytelling without money!'.
