Morten Tyldum’s dystopian series Silo to open Canneseries

The series is due to open the 6^th edition of the Canneseries, unfolding April 14-19.

Silo is directed by Tyldum from a screenplay by Emmy-nominated Graham Yost (Band of Brothers, Justified), based on Hugh Howey’s best-selling trilogy of dystopian novels.

Besides Rebecca Ferguson, the ensemble cast includes Common (The Chi), Harriet Walter (Succession), Avi Nash (The Walking Dead), David Oyelowo (Selma), Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) and Tim Robbins (Mystic River).

The 10-part series turns on the last 10,000 people on earth, and their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built, and anyone trying to find out faces fatal consequences.

Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer, who seeks answers about a loved one's murder and tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don't kill you, the truth will.

Top crew members include Icelandic composer Atli Örvarsson (The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Ploey: You Never Fly Alone, Chicago Fire), who collaborated earlier with Tyldum on Apple TV+’s Primetime Emmy-nominated Defending Jacob. Örvarsson also won a Harpa Nordic Film Composer award in 2015 for the Icelandic film Rams.

Silo is produced by AMC Studios for Apple TV+, with Tyldum, Ferguson, Yost, Howey serving as executive producers, alongside Nina Jack, Fred Golan, Rémi Aubuchon and Ingrid Escajeda. The series will premiere globally on Apple TV+ May 5, 2023.

The full line-up of Canneseries competition entries will be announced March 28.

The Cannes international series festival has been a privileged launching pad for Nordic series, that have scooped awards at four out of five of the previous editions.
