More than 30 territories have picked up the Gutsy Animations series commissioned by Yle in Finland and Sky in the UK.

The two first seasons of the 3D CGI series Moominvalley based on Tove Jansson’s beloved characters, is brought to the screens by Academy Award-winning director Steve Box (Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit), scriptwriters Mark Huckerby, Nick Ostler (Peter Rabbit), Josie Day, with Gutsy’s CEO Marika Makaroff acting as creative director and executive producer.

Through the deal with SF Studios, brokered by PSG Entertainment, the two seasons of Moominvalley (13x22’ each) will be available on DVD across the Nordics from December 2020, as well as on the SVOD platforms SF Kids in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. NRK Super will launch Moominvalley season 1 in the fall 2020. No date has yet been set for the Iceland premiere on RÚV.

Makaroff said: “Moomins has a great history and following in the Nordics so we are very happy to be able to share new Moomin content with new and existing fans. The core values of Moomins are currently highly important as we need love, respect for nature and friendship now more than ever.”

More than 30 territories have now acquired Moominvalley such as France (France Television), Germany (ZDF/KiKa), Italy (RAI), Japan (NHK) and China (Youku). The animated series won Best Children’s Series at the recent British Animation Awards, the TBI Content Innovation Award 2019 and a Golden Venla for Best Children’s Programme in Finland.

Speaking earlier to www.nordicfilmandtvnews, Makaroff said season 1 focuses on Moomintroll, whereas season 2 “is about every member of the Moomin family as they go through a life crisis, offering viewers “more comedy and more drama.”

Top actors lending their voices to the iconic characters Moominmamma, Moominpappa and Moomintroll include Rosamund Pike, Matt Berry and Taron Egerton for the English language version and Satu Silvo, Ville Haapasalo and Joonas Nordman for the Finnish version.

Season 1 was the most watched programme on Yle’s streaming platform Yle Areena, and more than 2.1 million Finns saw the opening episode across all Yle platforms.

Season 2 premiered on Yle March 2, 2020. A Northern Sámi version is available since April 13, 2020 on Yle channels.

The soundtrack for season 2 published by Sony Music includes original tracks from emerging artists Cavetown, girl in red, Alex Vargas, BOBBi, New Ro and Jesse Markin. The original score is composed by Samuli Kosminen and Jarmo Saari.
