Are you very pleased with the TV rating for the TV series Lærkevej after it premiered on TV2 on September 24?
Yes, we at Cosmo Film are very pleased. Especially considering that this is a new genre for the Danish viewers. There are absolutely no references or history in Danish produced television to compare with. This makes it a greater risk to take for every part involved - from the network to all the creative professional people behind.
Who is selling the TV series internationally?
TV2 sells Lærkevej in Scandinavia. Outside Scandinavia it's Cosmo Film.
Do you feel this genre could have a long life ahead in Denmark -and Scandinavia - and will you produce other similar programmes?
Dramedy could definitely have a long life in Denmark and Scandinavia, where we have a long tradition for crime and more social realistic stories. That's why I see it as a goal in itself to work with new genres. Dramedy is a very different genre. As a viewer you laugh at one moment, at the next you are drawn into serious drama. That's a very difficult balance. And when the viewers accept that Lærkevej is more of a fairytale than a true story - it will have a lot of potential.
Right now I'm focusing on second season of Lærkevej with head writer Mette Heeno and the cast and crew behind. It's important to stabilize Lærkevej in Scandinavia, and who knows maybe new programmes or even new genres will be challenged next time.
How important was it for you to get support from the DFI's Public Service Pulje and Nordisk Film & TV Fond?
We are very pleased to get the support from DFI's Public Service Pulje and Nordisk Film & TV Fond and it's been of great importance for us. Working with new genres, it is crucial for us to feel the courage from the backers and from the network.
