Two of Sweden's most promising filmmakers, Johan Brisinger (Underbara Älskade) and Othman Karim (About Sara) have just been awarded SEK8m and SEK7m each for their second feature films. Kristian Petri and his thriller Bad Faith also received one of the biggest grants from the SFI (SEK 8m) in the Institute's lastest round of production support.

Two years after his 2007 hit Underbara Älskade (Suddenly), Brisinger has teamed up again with Michael Nyqvist, offering him a chance to play against former James Bond girl Izabella Scorupco and French star Tchéky Karyo (photo) in the triangle drama Änglavakt. The film set to start filming in a few weeks in Gotland, is produced by Mikael Flodell (Drama Svecia).

Othman Karim's new film Dear Alice, is a multi-character drama about four individuals whose lives suddenly cross each other. The film is produced by Malin Holmberg-Karim and Hans Lönnerheder for One Tired Brother Productions. Sebbe, the feature debut of Iranian-born Babak Najafi, produced by Garagefilm, was awarded SEK 5.8m.

Two Atmo Media minority co-productions also received SFI support: The Temptation of St Tony by Estonia's star filmmaker Veiko Öunpuu was awarded SEK1.3m, and the documentary Into Eternity by Danish filmmaker Michael Madsen, produced by Magic Hour, was awarded SEK 400,000.

A new animation TV series Lilla Söket Laban 19-24 produced by Filmlance International, was awarded SEK2.5m.

The new Brisinger, Karim, Madsen and Lilla Spöken Laban films have all received support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
