Filming has started on Felix Herngren and Henrik Björn’s thriller series based on Emelie Schepp’s best-selling novels about Jana Berzelius.

Madeleine Martin, cast earlier in the Viaplay series Dystopia, SVT’s Lea, and the film Breaking Surface, has landed the title role as public prosecutor and former child soldier Jana Berzelius. The first book in the series produced by FLX in co-production with Viaplay, is co-written by Maria Karlsson (Snabba Cash), Daniel Sawka (Icebox) and Charlotte Lesche (The Lawyer).

In the six-part action thriller, the main protagonist Jana is asked to partner prosecutor Peer Bruckner (played by August Wittgenstein from The Crown, Ku’damm 56, Hidden) who is investigating the murder of a high-ranking head of the Migration Agency. The pair start a relationship that develops into a budding romance.

Jana is brilliant at her job, but also struggles with terrifying nightmares, something she's always been told is a result of her childhood as a refugee from a war-torn country.

When the suspect's body is found, Jana recognises something on his body. The further she digs, the more she realizes that it has to do with herself and her own repressed past.

The stellar cast also includes Fredrik Hallgren, Moa Gammel, Johan Ulveson, Pernilla August, Suzanne Reuter, Mahmut Suvakci, Peshang Rad, Thure Lindhardt and the recent Guldbagge winners Sigrid Johnson and Zlatko Buric.

Filming has started between Norrköping and Stockholm and the exclusive premiere on Viaplay is set for later this year.

The series is being produced by FLX’s Sussan Treschow, with Elin Kvist at FLX, Erik Barmack at Wild Sheep, Martin Rea at Reaz and Lotta Dolk at Viaplay Group serving as executive producers. Viaplay Content Distribution handles global sales.
