The only major competitors were Hollywood's Chipmunks 3 and the local comedies The Stig Helmer Story (SF) in Sweden and The Storage in Finland (Nordisk Film). In Norway and Denmark, two local titles (Magic Silver 2 and The Reunion) stayed at the Top 5 after several weeks on national release.
Nordisk Film's in house comedy The Reunion (Klassefesten) continues to perform strongly in Denmark after 11 weeks on local screens and this week, the film passed the distributor's other domestic hit A Funny Man (Dirch 484,209) with over 486,000 admissions. Sherlock Holmes 2 was number 1 for the second weekend, followed by Alvin and the Chipmunks 3, Happy Feet 2 and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The US version of the first Millennium book has sold over 33,000 tickets so far from 78 screens.
In Finland, Taru Mäkelä´s screwball comedy The Storage opened last weekend at number 2 for Nordisk Film, carried by positive reviews. Admissions to date are 24,984 from 69 screens. The other local comedy Mr Hayhill by Pekka Karjalainen´s and Matti Grönberg kept its fifth place in its second weekend on release. Total admissions so far for Disney have passed 18,000. Just outside the Top 10 is Sakari Kirjavainen's war drama Silence. Sherlock Holmes 2 was on top of the Charts and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo number 4.
In Iceland, US films filled the Top 10 last weekend starting with Sherlock Holmes 2 at number 1 for Samfilm. The Norwegian children animation film Elias and the Treasure of the Sea made a re-entry at number 14 for Myndform.
In Norway, the 3D family film Magic Silver 2- The Quest for the Mystic was the only local film at the Norwegian Top Ten last weekend. Arne Lindtner Næss's film came in at number five after seven weeks on domestic screens via Norsk Filmdistribusjon. Tickets sold so far have reached 274,000. Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 ruled at the admission chart, followed by Sherlock Holmes 2 and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
In Sweden, Svensk Filmindustri's revival of the popular Stig Helmer character, (The Stig Helmer Story) directed by Lasse Åberg opened on Christmas day at number 1, but had to let Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 take the lead last weekend. Åberg's comedy has sold over 201,000 tickets so far from 192 screens. Sony's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo stayed last weekend at number 3 in its third weekend, but admissions dropped by 39% from the previous weekend. Thomas Alfredson's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy was released on Christmas day by SF to rave reviews and admissions last weekend grew by 16%, reaching a total of 32,372 from 24 screens. Lisa Ohlin's Simon and the Oaks performed steadily during Christmas and should cash in on its Guldbagge nominations. The period drama was number 7 last weekend after a month on national screens and total admissions have passed 100,000 for Nordisk Film.
Among the new Nordic titles Aki Kaurismäki's Le Havre was released on Christmas day by Folkets Bio. The film is currently at number 13 in Sweden with over 7364 tickets sold so far from 11 screens.
