The sales agent has boarded Selma Vilhunen’s relationship drama, selected for Rotterdam and Göteborg competition slots.
Four Little Adults is Vilhunen’s third fiction film after the multi-awarded Little Wing, Nordic Council Film Prize winner 2017, and Stupid Young Heart, Crystal Bear winner 2019.
Toplining the director’s contemporary take on sex, love are relationships are Alma Pöysti (Tove), Eero Milonoff (Border), Oona Airola (The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki) and Pietu Wikström (Girl Picture).
The film tells the story of Juulia, who discovers that her husband Matias is having an affair with Enni, and decides to embrace the opportunity of polyamory without secrets.
"At the heart of our story is human frailty and helplessness in the face of life, no matter how hard one tries to strive towards security and good, right decisions,” Vilhunen said in an earlier statement. “With this group of actors, I dared to dive into the complex emotions of the scenes, surrender to them, and take risks together.”
Four Little Adults was produced by Venla Hellstedt and Elli Toivoniemi of Tuffi Films, with support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Aurora Studios is due to launch the film domestically later this year.
Following its world premiere at the Rotterdam Film Festival’s Big Screen competition, Four Little Adults will be vying for the Dragon Award-Best Nordic Film at the Göteborg Film Festival (January 27-February 5).
