LevelK has added the Danish film Checkered Ninja 3 to its slate, while TrustNordisk is pre-selling the Swedish film Super Charlie based on the books by Camilla Läckberg.
Both 3D animation projects are being co-created by the major Danish animation studios A Film (Help! I’m a Fish, Terkel in Trouble) and will be released in Scandinavia by Nordisk Film Distribution.
Checkered Ninja 3 is part of the hit franchise created by comedian/writer/director Anders Mathesen from his own best-selling books. Matthesen and Thorbjørn Christoffersen are directing, with Pop Up Production’s Trine Heidegaard and A Film’s Anders Mastrup serving as producers, alongside Sudoku. The film supported by the Danish Film Institute and the Estonian Film Institute is due to open August 21, 2025.
The sales and aggregation company LevelK which handled the first two Checkered Ninja movies, is again attached to this sequel.
The first two films broke B.O. records at home with more than 950,000 and 930,000 admissions respectively and they sold to more than 100 territories worldwide.
LevelK’s sales executive Alexandra Cruz will be at the American Film Market in Los Angeles this week to discuss the film with global buyers.
Meanwhile Super Charlie is written and directed by Jon Holmberg (Sune vs Sune, Fallet, Swedish Dicks) from Camilla Läckberg’s first eponymous children’s book series, already available in more than 60 countries.
Here the main hero Charlie is a special baby with super-powers. His elder brother Wille (10) wishes he would be the superhero, fighting crime with their father, a police officer. But when a deranged scientist threatens their city, Wille and Charlie need to put their differences aside and work as a team.
The action adventure is produced by Gustav Oldén for Nordisk Film, in co-production with Anders Mastrup for A.Film Production and support from the Swedish Film Institute, Film i Skåne, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Slugger Film.
The local release is set for December 2024.
TrustNordisk’s managing director Susan Wendt is representing the film at the AFM, together with sales director Nicolai Korsgaard.
