The Norwegian coming-of-age produced by The Worst Person in the World’s Thomas Robsahm starts filming in June.

Rising directing talent Aurora Gossé (Countrymen, Tainted) has assembled a stellar cast on her third feature film Dancing Queen produced by the seasoned Thomas Robsahm.

Next to the young debut actor Liv Elvira Kippersund Larsson (11) in the title role, are Anders Baasmo Christensen (The Kings Choice), Andrea Bræin Hovig (Hope), Anne Marit Jacobsen (Beware of Children), and Cengiz Al (Skam).

The script from newcomer Silje Holtet centres on Mina (12) who falls head over heels in love, when the famous dancer ED Win moves to her town and invites everyone to an audition for his new dance crew. Mina sees her chance and signs up. But she’s forgotten one thing: she can´t dance!

“With this script, Silje Holtet tells a classic, but original coming-of-age story, filled with humour and surprising turning points. Here is a main character with clear conflicts and goals, and bi-characters that we fall in love with, Robsahm said."

Filming starts June 7 and the Norwegian premiere is set for March 2023. The film produced by Robsahm for Amacord will be distributed by Ymer Media in Norway on behalf of Scandinavian Film Distribution , which holds rights for Scandinavia.

LevelK has just added the film to its Cannes lineup, led by Bille August’s period drama The Kiss, screening May 20 at a closed market screening in Cannes.

Other new titles include:

  • Swedish refugee drama Exodus by Abbe Hassan (BR.F)
  • Finnish horror Knocking by Max Seeck and Joonas Pajunen (Solar Films)
  • British dark comedy All My Friends Hate Me by Andrew Gaynord (Totally Tom Films)
  • Australian horror Sissy by Kane Senes and Hannah Barlow (Arcadia/DEMS Ent’/Freedom Films).

“We have a packed meeting schedule” said Head of Sales Debra Liang, who felt buyers are back physically in Cannes, besides some Asian distributors, holding meetings online instead.

LevelK’s sales team headed by CEO Tine Klint are holding meetings from their office 18 rue Vénizelos in Cannes until May 22.
