The project, (working title RWWM) is described as a cross between The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Blair Witch Project with the dark humour of The Evil Dead, will be financed by Kisi with Solar Film in Finland, and support from the Icelandic Film Centre. No date has been set for start of principal photography.
"We are waiting to be finished with the release of Dorks & Damsels (Astropia)", said Kemp, a few days prior to the film's opening in Iceland. The film targeting the youth audience was launched by Samfilm last Wednesday August 22 in six cinemas across the country. Gunnar B Gudmundsson who won an Edda Award in 2003 for his short film Caramels (Karamellumyndin) makes his directorial debut.
The comedy starring the former Miss Iceland and famous TV host Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir was produced for €1.5m by Kisi, Solar Films, the Icelandic Film Centre and Iceland's Ministry of Industry. "I'm very optimistic about the release because the film looks really good, Ragnhildur is excellent in her first feature film appearance and there are just very few Icelandic films targeting the youth audience", said Kemp. The film's trailer has been playing for the last five months, notably in front of Shrek, Harry Potter 5 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3. No sales agent has been appointed yet.
Kisi Production is also co-producer on Solar Film's horror film Dark Floors featuring the Finnish hard-rock monster group Lordi. The English language film was directed by Peter Riski has just finished shooting.
