Foldager joined Zentropa in 2006 to supervise Lars von Trier's films and other in-house productions. From her time at the Danish powerhouse, the 36 year-old producer says she has learnt how to interact with creative people and to package projects ‘so that they can fly, even the most difficult ones'.
Her goal with Meta Film is to act as a bridge between Scandinavia and the rest of the world by developing projects with established and new Danish directors for the national and international markets, and at the same time bringing high calibre international projects to Scandinavia. "I want to use my strong international connections (notably in the UK), and combine them with the creative freedom and special funding system that we have in Scandinavia," says Foldager. Producer Sara Namer (a former graduate of the Danish Film School) will assist her on the international projects and concentrate on new talents.
Foldager says Zentropa will be her ‘major customer' and she will continue to work on von Trier's films ‘on a pre-emptive basis', along with Louise Vesth. Projects she is handling for them include Melancholia (ready for Cannes 2011), Rebounce (Den der hvisker), the second feature film by Danish director Heidi Maria Faist set to premiere in March 2011, and Nikolaj Arcel's A Royal Affair (Caroline Mathildes år), currently in pre-production. She is also developing for Zentropa Rambuk the TV series Babylon co-produced with Ireland. Based on a script by Anders Rønnow Klarlund, the 12x40 minute series is a ‘euro-noir' set in Brussels. Shooting is set for early 2012.
Foldager is also co-producing the UK film The Promised Land with Revolution Films. Winterbottom's upcoming political thriller set against the lead-up to the 1948 partition of Palestine and creation of Israel stars Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen. Filming in Israel will start in March 2011.
