Mehr who has been serving as FLX’s head of business affairs for the last nine years, will take up his new position January 8, 2024, in replacement of Pontus Edgren.

Founded by commercially-oriented writer/director Felix Herngren, FLX is currently co-owned by Herngren, creative director, the company’s CEO Edgren and SF Studios, majority shareholder since 2019.

According to a statement from SF Studios, Edgren had been in dialogue with FLX’s owners for some time, following his decision to step down.

"I am very happy that Joshua Mehr, who has an extremely good understanding of the industry and FLX in particular, has agreed to take on the role as CEO of FLX,” said Iréne Lindblad, CEO of SF Studios and FLX chairman of the board, who also thanked Edgren for his contribution in building the company as “one of Scandinavia's most successful production companies”.

Mehr added: “With clear and strong leadership, FLX has gathered some of the industry's best and created a fantastic platform for creators. I want to thank Pontus for nine fantastic years together. It feels very exciting to now continue building the company together with Felix and all employees as we enter a new phase. FLX has always had a huge breadth and is well positioned in a changing market.”

Set up in 2007, the Stockholm-based company has since delivered some of Sweden’s biggest film and TV hits (Sunny Side, The 100 Year-old Man who Climbed out the Window, The Bonus Family, Quicksand).

FLX’s recent TV hits include Netflix’s Love & Anarchy, Viaplay’s The Meaning of Life, YA show Live Life and TV4-C More’s Adult Behaviour, all nominated at the last Swedish Kristallen TV awards.

Season 8 of the cult series Sunny Side (Solsidan) premiered September 29 on TV4 Play and two new seasons co-produced with Jarowskij are due for delivery in the coming years.

Other upcoming premium shows include SVT’s Stenbeck directed by Goran Kapetanović, with Jakob Oftebro in the lead, and the thriller Shadowland (Skuggland) about an exclusive private school in Djurgården, Stockholm, based on a novel by Marcus Dunberg.

On the feature film side, top filmmaker Mikael Marcimain is attached to the thriller An Honest Life set to premiere on Netflix in 2024, while Eddie Åhgren is directing this winter a contemporary version of the hit franchise The Jönsson Gang (Jönssonligan) starring Robert Gustafsson, Jonas Karlsson, and Anders Jansson.

The film is set to open in Swedish cinemas Christmas 2024, via SF Studios.
