Tomas Alfredson’s film will complement the Nordic streamer's large offer of Swedish quality family content.

The news was confirmed Wednesday by C More.

Alfredson’s anticipated new Swedish film The Jonsson Gang (Se upp för Jönssonligan) was originally set to open on Christmas day in Swedish cinemas. However a spike in covid-19 cases and new limits to social gathering to 8 persons maximum forced most local cinemas to close, and the film’s distributor SF Studios and producer FLX to find release alternatives.

Commenting on the film’s acquisition, Åsa Sjöberg, Content Director at TV4/C More said: “We are very happy to be able to offer all our users this incredibly nice Christmas present. Giving families all over Sweden the opportunity to experience the Christmas big movie from their living rooms on weekdays is completely unique and feels nice and good in these times.”

The Jonsson Gang is a reboot of the popular ‘Jönssonligan’ Swedish film franchise which debuted in the 80s and ran for two decades. Studiocanal handles global sales.

C More/TV4’s other local feelgood family content based on a celebrated IP, set to run during the pre-Christmas and Christmas period is the six-part series Jerry Maya’s Detective Agency (Lassemajas detektivbyrå). The TV show premieres on C More December 4.

Both The Jonsson Gang and Jerry Maya’s Detective Agency were supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
