The WW2 epic feature directed by Børning’s Hallvard Bræin for 74 Entertainment is due to start filming early 2022.
Gold Run (Guldtransporten) is based on an original script by Sofia Lersol Lund (Home Ground) and Thomas Moldestad (Cold Prey).
The film is inspired by the extraordinary true story of a group of unlikely resistance fighters who smuggled gold reserves out of Norway, as the country was to be occupied by Nazi German forces. On April 9, 1940, as German soldiers enter Olso, parliamentary secretary Fredrik Haslund hurriedly assembles an improbable team, consisting of his sister Nini, truck drivers and the famous poet Nordahl Grieg. The group sets on a secret mission to move 50 tonnes of gold across the country to reach an Allied shipping convoy.
Next to Jon Øigarden (Exit, Norsemen, 22 July) who plays Fredrik Haslund, are Sven Nordin (Wisting, Rod Nock, Valkyrien) and Axel Bøyum (Delete Me, Home Ground, Eyewitness).
Øigarden describes Gold Run as a popcorn-worthy war movie. “Many war movies are very serious and depict terrible human tragedies. Gold Run stands out in the genre as a fun and entertaining film with a twinkle in the eye.”
"Viewers around the world can expect our first Norwegian Viaplay Original film to deliver entertainment gold from the start to finish,” added Filippa Wallestam, Nent Group Chief Content Officer. Tanya Nanette Badendyck will be executive producing for the major streamer, commissioner of the recent Norwegian hit series Pørni, Furia and Wisting.
Gold Run is produced by 74 Entertainment’s Jørgen Storm Rosenberg and Kjetil Omberg, behind the recent SF Studios/Netflix hit The Trip starring Noomi Rapace and Aksel Hennie.
Asked if the feature could have a short theatrical release prior to its global launch on Viaplay, producer Jørgen Storm Rosenberg told nordicfilmandtvnews.com: “Gold Run is a film made for Nent Group, so it's really up to them. But, we are not limiting ourselves in the way we produce it. It will have the scope of a big blockbuster, a cinematic experience even if it "only" plays in people's living rooms.”
Viaplay plans to launch the film exclusively across its territories late 2022.
