The 4x52’ murder mystery is based on the eponymous best-selling book by Viktor Arnar Ingolfsson, adapted by Margrét Örnólfsdóttir (Prisoners). Björn B. Björnsson (Cold Trail) directs.

Set in 1970, the series follows Johanna, a professor of Nordic Studies, accused of murder. To prove her innocence, she has to solve a riddle in a medieval manuscript about Norse kings, the Flatey Enigma. On top of that, Johanna has to face her deepest fear: the man she ran away from ten years ago.

Moreyba Bidessie, Scripted Acquisitions Manager at Sky Vision said: “The Flatey Enigma is a compelling story about an estranged daughter who must exonerate herself, proving her innocence, and is forced to confront her deepest fears. We know international audiences love Nordic drama and I’m sure this will be a success for Sky Vision and Sagafilm.”

The series is co-produced by Reykjavik Films, in association with RUV, DR, SVT, YLE and NRK, support from the Icelandic Film Centre, Creative Europe and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
