Other global platforms and broadcasters that have just snapped the series produced by Vesturport for RÚV in Iceland and Arte France, include SBS in Australia, RTS in Switzerland and TG4 in Ireland. The drama backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond was pre-sold to DR, SVT, NRK and Yle.

The character-driven eight-part series Blackport (Verbúðin) was created by Gísli Örn Garðarsson (Ragnarok), Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Trapped, Fortitude) and Nína Dögg Filippusdóttir (Prisoners, The Valhalla Murders).

Co-writers Garðarsson, Haraldsson and Mikael Torfason, picked up the prestigious Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize for Best Screenplay of a Nordic TV Drama last February in Göteborg, as well as the Series Mania Grand Prize in 2021.

Set in the 1980s in a small Icelandic fishing village, the story follows a married couple, Harpa and Grimur, who along with their friends build a small fishing empire thanks to the introduction of the fishing quota system in the country. But the struggle for power deeply corrupts the couple, resulting in a feud of jealousy, greed and betrayal.

Laurent Boissel and Emmanuelle Guilbart, joint-CEOs and co-founders of the boutique distribution and packaging company About Premium Content (APC) said: “The talented creative team behind Blackport have produced a thrilling multi-layered series, not only transporting the audience through the dramatic twisting narrative weaving relationships, business and politics but also exploring the humour and absurdity of greed. We are delighted to have secured the first sales for the series and are sure audiences all over the world will relish the series as much as we do.”

Blackport was a resounding success at home when it launched on RÚV December 26, 2021 - see our separate story CLICK HERE. A second season is in the making.
