The Icelandic Film Company headed by producer Ingvar Thordarson and director/producer Julius Kemp is bubbling with projects and planning to deliver three-four feature films in 2012, almost half the country's annual output. One of the projects-the sci-fi thriller Frost (pictured) directed by Reynir Lyngdal was picked up for world distribution by TrustNordisk following its works in progress presentation in Gothenburg.

Lyngdal's credits include the successful crime series The Cliff and the romantic comedy Our Own Oslo, winner of an Edda award for Best Supporting Actress (María Heba Thorkelsdóttir). Shot entirely on a glacier in the Icelandic highlands, Frost revolves around the physiologist Agla and her boyfriend, filmmaker Gunnar who are part of an expedition, but when they wake up one morning, they realise their co-workers have all mysteriously disappeared. Aimed at a youth audience, the thriller was co-produced with Finland's Solar Films with support from the Icelandic Film Centre. Delivery date is set for September 2012.

The ‘no budget' tragi-comedy Rock Bottom is the second feature by writer/director Börkur Gunnarsson, a graduate from the FAMU film school in Prague whose first film was the Icelandic/Czech Bitter Coffee. It's the story of a journalist on the verge of losing his job and his girlfriend who goes on a mission to try to save everything. Delivery date is set for the summer. Actor Björn Thors plays the lead in both Rock Bottom and Frost.
Solstice is a family drama by first time director Lars Emil Arnason starring Iceland's top actor Theodor Júlíusson (Volcano). All three films will be released domestically by Samfilm. The Icelandic Film Company is also minority co-producer of the Latvian film Mona by Inãra Kolmane.
