The Danish series produced by Miso Film for TV2 Denmark is set to launch in the US on February 1st, 2021.
Peter Bose, co-CEO of Miso Film told nordicfilmandtvnew.com: “As far as we know, this is the first time HBO North America has acquired a non-English language TV-series from Scandinavia to be aired on HBO linear and HBO Max in US.”
The six-part series The Investigation (Efterforskningen) will feature on HBO Max new International Genre strand alongside other curated international high-profile series.
The deal with WarnerMedia’s network was negotiated by global distributor Fremantle, who secured earlier deals with major European broadcasters including BBC in the UK (premiere January 22), Movistar in Spain, France Télévisions in France and RTL in Germany.
The premium drama follows the complex real-life investigation of Copenhagen Police Head of Homicide Jens Møller into the 2017 murder of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, a case which made headlines around the world.
The compelling drama starring Søren Malling, Pilou Asbæk, Pernilla August and Rolf Lassgård was among the most successful adult-oriented local series on Danish television in 2020 and TV2 Denmark’s second biggest drama hit after the long-lasting Badehotellet VII.
Launched September 28 on TV2 and TV2 Play, the opening episode exceeded the TV station’s primetime average audience by 43% and received a satisfaction rate of 4.4 out of 5.
The series was also shown on SVT and Viaplay.
HBO Europe’s own upcoming Nordic TV shows include Denmark’s Kamikaze, Norway’s Beforeigners season 2 and Welcome to Utmark, nominated for the 2021 Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize.
