The Nordic-based global streamer which has made sustainability an integrated part of its business, has received Industry and Regional Top-Rated Badges from Sustainalytics.
Sustainalytics which follows more than 15,000 companies around the world, has ranked Viaplay Group 8th among 294 global media enterprises, based on its exposure to industry-specific material sustainability risks, and how well the company manages these risks. The major streamer has improved its score year on year and is now “classified as low risk,” says the company’s statement.
Furthermore, Viaplay’s goal to cut by 46.2% its absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions and by the same level its absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from business travel, by the year 2030 (with 2019 as the base year) has been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). The streaming group’s control of its GHG is now in line with the Paris Agreement’s trajectory for limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
“We are proud that our sustainability leadership in our industry and region is so widely recognised. At the same time, we can do even more,” said Anders Jensen, Viaplay Group President and CEO.
Lena De Geer, Viaplay Group Head of Sustainability added “Our positive impact continues to grow and in 2023 will be broader than ever. For instance, we will launch a program supporting sustainable production practices, contribute to meaningful climate change mitigation and safeguard responsible productions. We aim to lead by example while engaging even more with our partners and industry,” she confirmed.
De Geer took part recently in the Nordic Green Summit in Berlin, co-organised by the Nordic Film Commissions and Nordisk Film & TV Fond, as part of the Fund’s Green Year - see separate story - The Fund’s Nordic Green theme year kick-off: Nordic industry sets in motion Green Action Plan in Berlin: CLICK HERE.
