ARD Degeto has now joined the Swedish production outfit Filmlance International and its co-producers Film i Väst and Ahil Films in Lithuania.

The first season of the epic adventure based on Astrid Lindgren’s classic children’s book is currently in post-production and ready for delivery later this year, with a season 2 lined up for the fall 2024. ARD Degeto plans to launch the first six episodes in Germany in 2024.

We eagerly await to go on adventures with Ronja, her best friend Birk, robber chief Mattis and his wife Lovis, and many other beloved characters from Ronja's world and we cannot wait to meet them,” said Christoph Pellander, editor-in-chief at ARD Degeto.

Season 1 of the beloved Swedish IP is directed by Lisa James Larsson from a script by Hans Rosenfeldt. In the title roles are Kerstin Linden as Ronja, Jack Bergenholtz Henriksson as her best friend Birk Borkason, as well as Christopher Wagelin, Krista Kosonen, Sverrir Gudnason, Maria Nohra playing the parents of the two robbers’ families.

Three other Nordic shows were picked up for Germany by ARD Degeto in a multi-title deal brokered by Vanda Rapti, Viaplay Group EVP Viaplay Select & Content Distribution:

  • Limbo, the Warner Bros ITVP Sweden produced drama about motherhood and friendship starring Rakel Wärmländer, Sofia Helin and Louise Peterhoff,
  • Below, the Norwegian dark comedy drama written by Tina Rygh for Monster Scripted
  • Veronika, the Bigster produced Swedish psycho thriller starring Alexandra Rapaport and Tobias Santelmann.
