The Danish film Wild Witch by Kaspar Munk received the highest grant (NOK 2.5m) from Nordisk Film & TV Fond in its November round of support. 

The supported projects are:

  • Wild Witch (Vildheks) is produced by Good Company Films. The fantasy family film is written by Bo Hr Hansen (Speed Walking) based on the popular book series by Lene Kaaberbøl.

    When a big black cat scratches 12-year-old Clara, her life changes forever. She finds out that she belongs to a family of Wild Witches with a very close connection to nature. When the evil witch Chimera tries to kidnap Clara, she realises that she has special powers. To save herself, Clara sets out on a journey together with her two friends, Oscar and Kahla, to prove that she belongs to the Wild World. The film is co-produced by Norway’s Cinenord/Kidstory, Sweden’s Yellow Bird, the UK’s Nevision and Hungary's Proton Cinema, with co-financing from TV2 Danmark and NRK. Filming will start in Hungary in April 2017. Nordisk Film handles Scandinavian distribution and TrustNordisk world sales. 
  • I Remember You produced by Iceland’s ZikZak Filmworks was granted NOK 1.5 million. The thriller directed by Oskar Thór Axelsson (Black’s Game) is based on Yrsa Sigurdardottir's  eponymous best-selling novel. After the suicide of an older lady, the new psychiatrist in town finds out that she was obsessed with the disappearance of her 8-year-old son. At the same time, in an abandoned village, three city dwellers are restoring a house, and strange things start happening The two stories slowly intertwine and it turns out that the boy who mysteriously vanished some 60 years earlier is the connecting link.

    In the main roles are Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Game of Thrones), Thor Kistjánsson (Black’s Game) and Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir (City State). The ghost story/thriller is produced by Joni Sighvatsson, Thor Sigurjonsson, Skuli Malmquist and Chris Briggs for Zik Zak Filmworks in co-production with Norway’s Ape & Björn and Germany’s Maze Pictures, with support from the Icelandic Film Centre and the Norwegian Film Institute. The film will be released next year.

    TrustNordisk has closed pre-sales with Studiocanal for the UK, Telemünchen (German speaking territorries), Euromedia (Turkey) and Vertigo (Hungary).
  • The Swedish crime/comedy show Sophie Borg (Sophie Borg-mannen som talade engelska) produced by FLX for SVT was granted NOK 1.4m. The 8x30’ show is directed by Simen Alsvik (Lilyhammer) and Jon Holmberg (Swedish Dicks) from an original idea by FLX writers/creators Erik Hultkvist, Tapio Leopold, Rikard Ulvshammar and Robin Muhr.  When a British man is murdered in a small town in Sweden, Swedish police officer Sophie Borg and British DI, Tom Brown, are assigned to the case. As different as cats and dogs, they work together on what seems to be a gruesome serial killer investigation.

    “This is a crime story as much as it is a comedy”, said FLX’s managing director and co-owner Pontus Edgren. “We wanted to bring a comedic take on the Nordic Noir genre and the clichés that go with it.” In the main roles are UK actor Adam Godley (Breaking Bad), Lisa Henni (Easy Money), Tomas von Brömssen, as well as Björn Kjellman, Lia Boysen, Björn Granath, Stina Rautelin and Dag Malmberg. 

    The series is co-produced by Film Väst, with co-financing from DR. SVT is planning a spring premiere. 
  • The documentary Apolonia, Apolonia produced by Danish Documentary was granted NOK 400,000. The film is the first solo feature by Lea Glob (Olmo and the Seagull, Venus). The coming of age story focuses on a female painter’s personal and artistic development, filmed over a period of nine years. Apolonia is torn between her Parisian Bohemian life and a move into the commercial world. The film is currently in the editing stage. 

Nordisk Film & TV Fond also allocated Distribution grants to the following films and companies:

  • NOK 80,000 to Norsk Filmdistribusjon (Norway) for the theatrical release of the Danish film Shelley by Ali Abbasi. 
  • NOK 100,000 to Fidalgo (Norway) for the theatrical release of the Swedish film The Giant by Johannes Nyholm. 
  • NOK 100,000 to Atlantic Film (Finland) for the theatrical release of the Swedish film A Serious Game by Pernilla August. 

A Dubbing grant was handed out to SF Studios for the Norwegian animation film In the Forest of Huckybucky by Rasmus A. Sivertsen. The film will be released simultaneously in Denmark, Finland and Sweden in Easter 2017.
