A couple of years ago, Fjeldmark left A Film for whom he had directed successful animation films such as Terkel in Trouble and Help, I'm a Fish, to explore ‘new ways of manipulating reality and telling stories' with VFX techniques. After a stint at Fine & Mellow, then Zentropa, Fjeldmark now runs his own company Eye Candy Film. To avoid high overheads and running costs, he shares infrastructure and facilities with half a dozen other film and TV companies, such as Beo Film, Sebasto Film and Tonemestrene Studios. "When we work on a project, we just bring together our crew and ideas. This is a new cost-effective way of doing business," stresses Fjeldmark who is also interested in cross media to explore new financing and creative models.
Eye Candy Film is currently working on four projects. The company is co-producing with Frame by Frame for TV 2 Zulu a TV series described by Fjeldmark as a mix between The Office and Entourage, meant to fill the gap on the market left by Zentropa's Clown. The series Idealists will be directed by Peter Gornstein. Fjeldmark will direct the animation project Our House with Kalle Bjerkø (Yallahrup Færgeby), a satire of the Danish political scene and the teen movie The Ghost Detective (Spøgelsesdetektiven) starring Paprika Steen. Both projects are developed for Zentropa's Peter Engel. Eye Candy Film will also produce a project by promising Danish animation director Paw Charlie Ravn who attended Nordic Talents 2010 with Two Friends, his graduation film from the Danish Film School.
Keen to develop ties outside the Nordic region, Fjeldmark has also teamed up with Canada's New Real Films on the children's fantasy film League of Monster Slayers written and directed by Aaron Woodley. The ‘Mary Poppins Meet Harry Potter' project in pre-production will be executive produced by David Cronenberg. Fjeldmark is looking for partners in Sweden to build a Canadian/Danish/Swedish co-production.
