Yellow Film & TV’s comedy show has four nominations at the Finnish Emmy awards or Golden Venlas 2018, followed by Dionysos Film’s Deadwind with three accolades.
Sunday Lunch (Sunnuntailounas) created by Atte Järvinen is vying for Best Comedy series, Best Screenplay (Järvinen), Best Actress (Elena Leeve) and Best Actor (Taneli Mäkelä). The show tells of a father who tries to reconnect with his adult children, forcing them to meet every Sunday for lunch. The 10x22’ series was produced by Yellow Film & TV for C More/MTV3.
The crime drama Deadwind (Karppi), which was nominated earlier this year for the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize, is running at the Golden Venlas for Best Drama, Best Screenplay (Rike Jokela, Kirsi Porkka, Jari Olavi Rantala) and Best Actress (Pihla Viitala). The show produced by Dionysos Film had a successful run on Yle this spring. Paris-based About Premium Content closed a distribution deal with Netflix.
Two other series have two nominations each:
In the Male Acting category, Taneli Mäkelä is running against Eero Aho from Unknown Soldier (Elokuvaosakeyhtiö Suomi 2017, Yle) and Samuel Kujala from the web series Nerd: DragonSlayer 666 (Dionysos, Yle Areena), while the Best Directing category (ranging from reality, short form and comedy) has Survivor Finland’s Edward Kojonen, competing against Living with My Ex ‘s Johanna Vuoksenmaa and Mental’s Teemu Nikki. Third contentant in the Best TV Drama category is crime show King Liar produced by Yellow Film & TV for Nelonen.
The winners of Golden Venla TV awards will be announced January 11, 2019 at a ceremony held at the Finnish National Opera and transmitted live on Yle.
The Golden Venlas are voted on by members of the Finnish Television Academy.
