The Storage (Varasto) by film and television director Taru Mäkelä is based on a script by Veli-Pekka Hänninen, adapted from a novel by Arto Salminen. It's a screwball comedy about people working at a paint store. In the lead roles are Peter Franzén and Minttu Mustakallio. The €748,000 film is produced by Mäkelä‘s company Kinosto Oy. Shooting will start in September and delivery date is set for the autumn 2011. The project is backed by MTV3 and Nordisk Film.
Zaida Bergroth's new film Henkivartija will start filming in July. Based on a script co-written by Jan Forsström, it focuses on 38-year-old actress Leila (Elina Knihtilä), who goes to her summer house with her husband and two sons after the unlucky premiere of her film. Their peaceful holiday is disrupted by the arrival of Leila's friend, the charismatic writer Aimo. Other cast members include Samuli Niittymäki and Eero Aho. The Oy Buffo production received co-financing from YLE. Walt Disney Studios Finland will release it in March 2011.
Two minority co-productions also received support from the Finnish Film Foundation. The German film Summer Window by Hendrik Handloegten is produced by Zentropa in Berlin in co-production with its Finnish affiliate Edith Film. The Irish film Parked by Darragh Byrne, is a drama starring Colm Meaney, Colin Morgan and Milka Ahlroth (Twisted Roots). Ripple World Pictures is producing with Finland's Helsinki Filmi. The two companies previously collaborated on the upcoming Finnish film Lapland Odyssey by Dome Karukoski.
