Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin to hand out the Nordic Council Film Prize 2022

The winners of the coveted film prize will be announced November 1st at prestigious awards ceremony held at Helsinki’s Musikhuset.

The Nordic Council awards ceremony will be hosted by well-known moderator and producer Andrea Reuter and actor Christoffer Strandberg (Putous).

The awards ceremony is also available on other Nordic public broadcasters.

Five Nordic Council awards celebrating Nordic film, literature for youth and adults, music, and innovation in environmental issues, will be given out by top artists, personalities and politicians from the Nordic region.

  • Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin is due to hand out the Nordic Council Film Prize, administered by Nordisk Film & TV Fond,
  • Faroese singer-songwriter and actress Eivør Pálsdóttir will hand out the Nordic Council Music Award, which was bestowed to her in 2021,
  • Sophia Jansson, niece to the beloved Moomins creator Tove Jansson, and chair of the board of Moomin Characters Oy Ltd, will deliver the Nordic Council Children & Young People’s Literature Prize,
  • Finnish poet Jenni Haukio and spouse of the President of Finland Sauli Niistö,will hand out the Nordic Council Literature Prize,
  • Petri Piirainen (CEO RePack), will deliver the Nordic Council Environment Prize, an award which he received in 2017.

This year’s nominees for the 20th Nordic Council Film Prize are the following:

  • Denmark’s Godland (Vanskabte Land /Volaða Land) - writer/director Hlynur Pálmason, producers Eva Jakobsen, Katrin Pors, Mikkel Jersin, Anton Máni Svansson
  • Finland’s The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic (Sokea mies joka ei halunnut nähdä Titanicia) - writer/director Teemu Nikki, producer Jani Pösö,
  • Iceland’s Lamb (Dýrið) - director/co-writer Valdimar Jóhannsson, screenwriter Sjó, producers Hrönn Kristinsdóttir, Sara Nassim,
  • Norway’s The Worst Person in the World (Verdens verste menneske) - writer/director Joachim Trier, screenwriter Eskil Vogt, producers Thomas Robsahm, Andrea Berentsen Ottmar,
  • Sweden’s Clara Sola-writer/director Nathalie Álvarez Mesén, screenwriter Maria Camila Arias, producer Nima Yousefi.

On Monday October 31, nominated writers, directors and producers - Anton Máni Svansson and Katrin Pors (Denmark), Teemu Nikki and Jani Pösö (Finland), Valdimar Jóhannsson & Hrönn Kristinsdóttir (Iceland), Thomas Robsahm (Norway), Nathalie Álvarez Mésen and Maria Camila Arias (Sweden) took part in a panel discussion on the creative and collaborative side of their work, while jury chair Mikaela Westerlund talked about the national and Nordic jury processes. The session that celebrated the 20th anniversary of the film prize was moderated by Nordisk Film & TV Fond CEO Liselott Forsman.

    The Nordic Council Awards gala at Helsinki’s Musikhuset will start at 20.00 (CET+1) and will be transmitted live on Yle Teema/Yle Fem throughout the Nordic region.

    It will also be available to watch on other Nordic public broadcasters including SVT, NRK, RÚV and KVF.

    The Nordic Council Awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with the 74th session of the Nordic Council in Helsinki.
