The Swedish series about power games, sex, lies, and culinary delights is based on the eponymous best-selling book by Katarina Ekstedt and Anna Winberg Sääf.

Published in 2022, Nord is set in the fascinating world of Michelin starred restaurants.

The suspense novel is the first joint-novel by Ekstedt - married to Michelin-starred chef Niklas Ekstedt - and Winberg, named ‘Regional Author of Kalmar County’ in 2021.

Filmlance International’s producers Tomas Michaelsson (Caliphate) and Karl Fredrik Ulfung (Lust) have hired top Danish screenwriter Johanne Algren (Holiday, Kamikaze, Copenhagen Cowboys) for the screen adaptation.

The story follows Alex, whose gloomy life suddenly takes a new turn. After a fateful accident as a teenager, the young man has been living alone, with no job and an ego at rock bottom. Until he gets the dream offer to work as a Commis de Cuisine - kitchen assistant -, at the world-famous star restaurant ‘Nord’ in Åre, the famous Swedish ski resort. However, it doesn't take long before the work in the restaurant kitchen is replaced by a web of lies, sex and threats.

Michaelsson and Ulfung describe the book as a page turner that immediately caught their attention.

“To develop the ‘Nord’ universe with its complex characters into a high quality and exciting TV series is a fantastic opportunity. And to be able to do it in a restaurant environment where fabulous food will be cooked during filming means that we will put on a few kilos!”, said the duo before adding. “Together with scriptwriter Johanne Algren, we are convinced that we can create an international success that will keep viewers on their toes.”

Banijay Group’s Swedish production label Filmlance International has successfully adapted to the screens several major IPs such as Viveca Sten’s Sandhamn Murders, Jens Lapidus’ Top Dog and Fredrik Backman's Beartown. Among the most anticipated TV series is Ronja the Robber’s Daughter based on Astrid Lindgren’s classic fantasy novel set to premiere on Viaplay later this year.
