Cannes: The newly launched Scandinavian agency for young music/acting talents, is a division of the major Swedish TEN Music Group, headed by Håkansson.
Since 2003, the 360-degree company TEN consisting of TEN Records, TEN Management, TEN Songs and TEN Ventures, has discovered and launched internationally some of Sweden’s biggest pop music celebrities - from Zara Larsson, Icona Pop, Erik Hassle to Benjamin Ingrosso.
Now under the impulse of the visionary music producer Håkansson, himself a former pop legend, the fast-expanding group is building on the streaming boom and wealth of emerging Scandi talents to help its artists under contract, establish their names on the global music, film and TV stages.
Heading the new company is Håkansson’s match in the film business - seasoned producer/distributor Peter Possne, former founder of Sonet Film and most recently Head of Production at Film i Väst.
“Ole and I are long-time friends and he has asked me if we could do something together,” Possne tells us, ahead of his company’s launch in Cannes.
Explaining TEN Film’s DNA, the seasoned film executive says the company will package, develop and produce film & TV projects for its young music/acting talents. It will also develop film music (score and songs) for its own productions, and for other producers' film and TV projects.
Possne who was instrumental in launching the film careers of Lukas Moodysson, Josef Fares and co-produced Ruben Östlund’s first films Involuntary and Play, says he feels honoured to support Scandinavian new voices, create synergies with TEN’s core music activities, and reenergise the Swedish film & drama series sector.
So far, young talents under TEN Film’s care include Omar Rudberg, one of the stars of Netflix’s hit series Young Royals, and soon to be seen in Scandinavian Content Group’s genre feature Carousel, co-produced by Film i Väst and Nordisk Film.
Other hot names are Felix Sandman (Quicksand, Home for Christmas, Last Light) and Danny Saucedo who just made his screen debut in the upcoming Viaplay/B-Reel Films’ series Scenes After a Marriage.
Explaining his content development strategy, the head of film & TV says he makes a 360-degree financial evaluation of every project that lands on his desk, based on the producers, director’s pedigree, the script, the financing, making estimates on the project’s ability to meet its ambitions and distribution plan. “Then when all the signs are green, I contact our talents and suggest for them to board the project,” says Possne who plans to collaborate both with the global streamers and traditional distributors.
“So far 80% of our projects were externally produced, but we’re slowly building our own slate,” Possne says, referring to TEN Music’s trademark, which is to nurture talent for the long haul.
