The latest heartfelt movie from the director of The 100 Year-old Man…” is produced by FLX in co-production with SF Studios. Currently filming in Göteborg, Herngren’s life-affirming Swedish dramedy Day by Day is written by Tapio Leopold from an idea by actors William Spetz and Martina Haag.

The film opens at a retirement home where we get to know the demented Tage, played by Tomas von Brömssen (The Simple Heist), Malte (A Song For Martin’s Sven Wollter) and Rut (Marianne Mörck of Wallander fame). There is also Katrin, the caretaker (Martina Haag) and the cleaner Simon (William Spetz). Together, they all set out on a motorhome journey through Europe to fulfil an elder man’s last wish. Cross-generational friendships are developed, an autumn romance is kindled and life-changing decisions are made.

Herngren concedes that the topic of euthanasia resonates with him as people close to him ended their lives at a clinic in Switzerland. "For me, it is natural to work on heavy topics like aging and active euthanasia, but also to use warmth and humour,” says the director of the smash TV hits Solsidan, The Bonus Family, and the film The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared.

Day by Day is produced by FLX’s Anna Carlsten, executive produced by Anna Anthony and Joshua Mehr. SF Studios is co-producing with Film i Väst and C More/TV4.  Principal photography started on September 23 in Göteborg and will continue in Copenhagen, Berlin and Croatia. SF Studios will handle the national release in the fall of 2020.
