Exclusive: REinvent has boarded Simo Halinen’s four-part series, support by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
The psycho thriller series which started filming May 30, is written and directed by Halinen (Open Up to Me, East of Sweden) from his own best-selling novel Nainen joka katosi (The Woman Who Disappeared).
The story turns on Aaro who falls for the enigmatic Maura on a summer night in Helsinki. They develop a passionate relationship, until Maura suddenly vanishes. Aaro starts to doubt the woman of his dreams really existed. As a lawyer for an insurance company, he manages to track her down and finds out about a past crime that had left permanent marks on Maura.
According to ReelMedia’s Pauliina Teirikari who produces alongside Johanna Enäsuo, the story is told from the perspectives of three main characters whose stories intertwine.
In the title roles are Pekka Strang (Mister8, Tom of Finland), Oona Airola (The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki), Johannes Holopainen (All the Sins, Heavy trip) and Saga Sarkola (Memory of Water, Evil).
"The Girl Who Disappeared is a high-quality, cool and stylish suspense series that keeps the viewer gripped until the surprising ending. In addition to high-quality acting, the series aims for a very high visual quality, which makes the Finnish summer landscape in the archipelago and Helsinki city particularly eye-catching for the viewers", said MTV’s Head of Drama and Development Jani Hartikainen.
The mini-series series produced by ReelMedia for C More and MTV has received financing from Business Finland, West Finland Film Commission and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
REinvent International Sales which handles ReelMedia’s other premium series Peacemaker, has come on board as global distributor.
The premiere is set for early 2025.
