The Swedish sci-fi adventure from the collective team behind The Unthinkable is handled internationally by REinvent.
Currently filming in and around Norrköping, Sweden, UFO Sweden is the sophomore feature from the Crazy Pictures collective who rose to fame with their low budget action movie The Unthinkable, sold worldwide by SF Studios to top distributors including Wild Bunch for French speaking territories, BIM in Italy and Magnet Releasing in the US.
The latest team work from Collective friends Olle Tholén, Victor Danell, Rasmus Råsmark, Hannes Krantz and Albin Pettersson, is a cross betweenThe X-Files and Stranger Things, but set in small-town Sweden. The story follows teenage rebel Denise, placed in foster care, who suspects that her father is not dead, but has been kidnapped by UFOs. With the help from a UFO association, she is determined to find out the truth.
Making her debut in a major film role is Inez Dahl Torhaug (17), known for her appearance in the TV drama The Truth Will Out. “Denise is a character who carries most of the film, so it was extremely important to find the right person portraying her,” said Tholén, who was impressed with his colleagues by the casting tape sent by Torhaug. “We were mesmerized by her presence and knew immediately that she was exactly what we were looking for,” he said.
Other cast members include Eva Melander (Border), Jesper Barkselius (The Unthinkable, The Hunters 2) and Sara Shirpey (Top Dog, Alex).
UFO Sweden is produced by Crazy Pictures in co-production with SF Studios, Film i Väst and SVT, with the support from Norrköping’s Film Fund, The Swedish Film Institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
The domestic release via SF Studios is set for Christmas 2022.
