Sweden's top film region attracts foreigners

During Film i Väst's press lunch in Cannes, Managing Director Tomas Eskilsson proudly announced that Scandinavia's biggest regional film centre had invested this year SEK 55 million in 20 productions worth around SEK 650 million.

Five of them are supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond: Peter Flinth's mega-production Arn, Omar Shargawl's Ma Salama Jamil, Lukas Moodysson's Mammotht, Tarik Saleh's animated film Metropia and Pernilla Fischer Christensen's Drenge og piger danser.

Although the bulk of the projects are majority Swedish co-productions (60%), an increasing number of international projects are coming to Sweden's West coast to use Trollhättan's facilities and personnel against co-financing, be it from France, Ireland, Germany, and soon Poland and the UK. Among the projects announced is French film Les grandes personnes (lit' The Grown Ups) by first time director Anna Novion whose mother is Swedish. Olivier Guerpillon (DFM Fiktion) is the Swedish co-producer.

Former Trust CEO Anna-Karin Wolfsberg has been hired to support Film i Väst's international strategy.
