Erik Poppe's (pictured) upcoming film A Thousand Times Good Night (aka Grenade) was awarded ?550,000 in top financing, one of the largest grants of The Council Europe's Eurimages March round of production support. Other Nordic grant recipients include Per Fly's biopic Monica Z and the Finnish documentary American Vagabond.

Produced by Paradox in co-production with New Grange Pictures (Ireland) and Zentropa Sweden, A Thousand Times Good Night was also backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Scripted with Harald Rosenløw Eeg, A Thousand Times Good Night is inspired by Poppe's own experiences as a war photographer in the 1980s, although with a female as main character in the film. "This is a very personal and difficult story to tell, but also beautiful and daring," said the director.

Stella Nova Film's attractive project Monica Z in which the singer Edda Magnason will play the iconic Swedish jazz singer and actress Monica Zetterlund, was awarded €370,000 from Eurimages. The story written by Peter Birro will focus on Zetterlund's rise to stardom in the 1960s, from small telephone operator to queen of jazz clubs in Stockholm and New York. American Vagabond is the new documentary by the award-winning Susanna Helke (The Idle Ones) focusing on queer youth struggling to find their place to live in San Francisco. The co-production between Finland's For Real Production and Denmark's Radiator was awarded €60,000.
