The Norwegian kids show Stikk (Leave me Alone), drama series Norwegian Cozy and Danish hit series Borgen supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond, are each nominated for an International Emmy Award in New York. The announcement was made by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Monday during MIPCOM in Cannes.
Eva Dahr's (pictured) Stikk is one of four international children's series competing in the ‘Best Kids Series' category at the inaugural International Emmy Kids Awards. The series produced by Nordisk Film TV for NRK, SVT, DR and RUV had already received international exposure at the Prix de la Jeunesse in Munich where it came second in the Fiction for 12-15 competition.
The Norwegian broadcasting corporation has another two Emmy Kids nominations for Best Kids non-scripted Entertainment (Energy Survival produced by Fabelaktiv/Enova) and Best Preschool show (The Reading Band (Leserkorpset).
NRK's TV drama Norwegian Cozy has a chance to win an International Emmy for Best Performance by an Actor thanks to Stein Winge's convincing interpretation of the paranoid father Frank in Tordenfilm's series. This is the second time a Norwegian actor has a go at the Emmy awards. The first Norwegian contender was Anneke von der Lippe, nominated in 2005 for her part in NRK's At the King's Table.
"It is quite extraordinary to be nominated in the Acting category because directing is really my main occupation today, although I was trained as an actor, said Winge to nordiskfilmogtvfond.com. "Working on Norwegian Cozy was a wonderful experience and I loved playing a bad guy. Those parts are often the most interesting for an actor."
Meanwhile Danish actress Sidse Babette Knudsen who stars as prime-minister Birgitte Nyborg in DR's series Borgen could grab another Best Actress award for her role, after the Golden Nymph statuette won in Monte-Carlo. Last time a DR TV drama was nominated in this category was in 2008 with Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing).
The winners of the International Emmy Awards will be announced in New York on November 19, 2012 and those for the inaugural International Emmy Kids Awards on February 8, 2013.
