Elisa Viihde’s Summer of Sorrow, Yle’s My Husband’s Wife, Adults 3 lead Golden Venla nominations

This year’s Golden Venla (Kultainen venla) nominations, organised by the Finnish Television Academy, will inaugurate neutral gender acting categories, with a Leading Actor and Supporting Actor replacing Male and Female Actor of the year.

Other changes have been introduced to News, Current Affairs and Factual programmes, split into two categories: News & Current Affairs and Factual & Documentary programmes, while Sports & Events earlier combined into one category will each have their own strand.

The dozen fiction series select this year reflect the wealth and depth of Finnish premium dramas that are being produced, with the solid backing from the main commissioners Yle, C More and Elisa Viihde, each represented with two entries in Drama Series of the year.

The front-runner series with five nominations each are Elisa Viihde’s thriller drama Summer of Sorrow produced by Rabbit Films, Yle’s My Husband’s Wife produced by Lucy Loves Drama, and Adults 3, produced by Yellow Film & TV.

Yle’s drama’s Transport, produced by Tekele, which was selected for the 2022 Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize, is running in four categories, including best drama.

Series sharing three nominations are C More’s Mobile 101, produced by Rabbit Films, and Elisa Viihde’s The Man Who Died produced by ReelMedia, while Yle’s Helsinki Syndrome produced by Fisher King and The Paradise S2, produced by ReelMedia are both running for Best Leading Actor, with Peter Franzén and Riita Havukainen respectively.

The winners for the Golden Venla TV awards will be announced January 20, 2023.
