The yet untitled limited series directed by Per-Olav Sørensen has just started production for Yellow Bird UK and Netflix.
The English and Swedish language series is inspired by the book “Spotify Untold” by business reporters Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud is adapted for television by Christian Spurrier (Silent Witness).
The six-part TV drama tells the extraordinary story of Swedish tech entrepreneur Daniel Ek and his key partners - including Spotify co-founder Martin Lorentzon - who revolutionised the music industry by offering free and legal streamed music around the world.
“Not only is this a story about the way all our lives have changed in the last decade, it’s about the battle for cultural and financial influence in a globalised, digitised world,” said Yellow Bird UK’s creative director and the series’ executive producer Berna Levin.
Headlining the premium show are Edvin Endre (A Class Apart, Blinded) as Daniel Ek, Christian Hillborg (The Last Kingdom) as Ek’s financial partner Martin Lorentzon, Gizem Erdogan (Love & Anarchy, Caliphate) as star lawyer Petra Hansson, Ulf Stenberg (Beartown, The Hunters) as Per Sundin, former president of Universal Music Nordics, now Head of Pop House Sweden, and Joel Lützow (Gåsmamman) as Andreas Ehn, former Spotify Chief Technology Officer.
The series is produced by Eiffel Mattsson for Banijay Group’s label Yellow Bird UK. Netflix will launch it globally in 2022.
The untitled Spotify series is the second Yellow Bird UK production for Netflix after Young Wallander, recommissioned for a second season.
