The cold war spy thriller has Charles Randolph (The Interpreter) as main writer/show-runner. Randolph will executive produce with co-writer Malcolm Gladwell, Stephen Levinson (Entourage) and Mark Wahlberg. Set in 1969, the story focuses on a young American missionary who gets caught up in a Cold War intrigue while helping a young woman cross the Berlin Wall. Filming for the pilot TV movie is scheduled to start on April 15 in Hungary and Germany. Scandinavian talents are set to join US actor Benjamin Walker who plays the missionary. Kormákur is also in post-production with his Hollywood movie 2 Guns starring Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington and juggling several projects in Iceland and in the US, such as Working Title's The Everest.
Kormákur's drama The Deep that was short-listed for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category collected 11 Edda awards including Best Film, Director, Actor (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson), Cinematography (Bergsteinn Björgúlfsson), Editing (Sverrir Kristjánsson/ Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir) and Music (Ben Frost/Daniel Bjarnason).
Other major Edda winners were Óskar Thor Axelsson's crime thriller Black's Game (top grossing Icelandic film of 2012) that grabbed three statuettes for Best Script (Axelsson), Supporting Actor (Damon Younger) and Supporting Actress (Mary Display Bjarnadóttir).
The crime series The Press Season 3 won TV Fiction of the Year and Best Actress (Sara Dew Ásgeirsdóttir). Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir's A Boy Like Her-A Personal Story About an Unavoidable Journey scooped Best Documentary and Ávaxtakarfan Best Children's Film.
