The six-part series created by Alexandra-Therese Keining for Kärnfilm is currently filming between Sweden and Lithuania.

Known for directing LGBTQ-related films such as With Every Heartbeat and Girls Lost, Alexandra-Therese Keining has written The Fighter (Swedish title Lea) together with Henrik Engström (Rebecka Martinsson: Arctic Murders) and Jörgen Bergmark (Huss).

The strong creative team also takes in concept director Andrea Östlund (A Class Apart, The Restaurant) and episodic director Fredrik Edfeldt (Blue Eyes, The Girl). Kärnfilm’s Petra Jönsson and Karina Stääv Ardelius are producing.

The series follows Lea Ferrera, a determined boxer with a checkered past, who is willing to do anything to fight for the World Championship title. But her body is hurt and everyday life as a single mother is a struggle. When an investigator suspects her of cheating, bad turns to worse, as loyalties are tested and criminal accusations surface once again. Lea has to decide if she’s prepared to risk it all.

In the title roles are Madeleine Martin (Breaking Surface) Jennie Silfverhjelm (Beck, The Girl Who Played with Fire), Joel Spira (Thicker Than Water) and Ralph Carlsson (Snow Angel, Solsidan).

The Fighter is an original and thrilling story set in a gritty and tough world that audiences haven’t seen,” said Dynamic Television’s Managing Partners Daniel March and Klaus Zimmermann.
The series is due to premiere on SVT in 2022.
