After a successful run on NRK, Norway's pre-school animated TV series Sunshine Kathy (known as Elleville Elfrid in Norway and Ellevilde Ella in Denmark) is arriving in Denmark on DR1 this Friday, launched with its educational Apps and web games.

Produced by Norway's Kool Production with Denmark Happy Flyfish, Sunshine Kathy is the story of an ordinary 5 year-old girl who turns everyday challenges into charming discoveries. The series will be aired every Friday on DR1 at 16:25 with reruns every Wednesday at 7:00 and further broadcasting on DR Ramasjang. The 27x7' series was first aired on NRK in August last year and achieved very good ratings, reaching 65% of the kids segment 2-12. "Competition is tough with Disney and Nickelodeon, but I think that there is more soul in what we make. Being able to see things from a child's perspective rather than talking down to them is essential," said producer Frank Mosvold.

Initially developed only as a TV series, Sunshine Kathy is now a fully-fledged cross-media property. Mosvold says his show's selection at Nordisk Film & TV Fond's 2010 High Five Cross-Media Content for Kids initiative and access to international experts was crucial for his company's new commitment to digital entertainment for kids. "Thanks to High Five Cross-Media Content for Kids, we were also put in touch with Rock Pocket Games, the best game developer in Norway with whom we're now collaborating on all our Apps".

Meanwhile an e-book version of Sunshine Kathy is being developed by the Danish scriptwriter Bo Hr Hansen (The Art of Crying). After the summer, the TV series and Apps will be launched in Israel and in Germany.

Nordisk Film & TV Fond has just agreed to launch a second High Five Cross-Media Content for Kids initiative. For further details, click here.
