A handful of documentaries on DR Sales’ spring catalogue were hot picks with world buyers at Cannes’ MIPDOC.

The Sundance and CPH:DOX winning film Last Men in Aleppo was sold to Brazil and Iceland on top of previous deals closed with the US, Mexico, Belgium, the Balkans among others.

Feras Fayyad and Søren Steen Jespersen’s stirring portrait of the Syrian White Helmets volunteer group will open in selected US cinemas in May via Grasshopper Films. DR2’s Dokumania will air it in May and French/German ARTE in June. 

The Danish/German co-production supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond will screen later this month at Canada’s HotDocs World Showcase.

The Danish documentary series Third World Billionaires (Superrig i Slummen) produced by Impact TV for DR was another popular title at MIPDOC. The four-part documentary in which Danish journalist Kristoffer Eriksen meets some of the wealthiest persons in Kenya, Bangladesh, Ghana and Nepal was sold to Canada, Belgium and Poland.

Emil Langballe’s film The Wait (Made in Copenhagen) about a14 year-old girl facing deportation to Afghanistan was sold to Belgium and Finland, while the Icelandic documentary Inside a Volcano-The Rise of Icelandic Football was picked up by Belgium.
