The major deals on the Prix-Italia winning series were announced by DR Sales.
The hard-hitting prison drama Prisoner (Huset) toplining Sofie Gråbøl, David Dencik, Youssef Wayne Hvidtfeldt was acquired by the BBC for the UK and Ireland, MHz Networks for the US, Canal+ Group for its crime specialised channel Polar+, SBS for Australia, NPO for the Netherlands and BeTV for French-speaking Belgium.
BBC’s head buyer Sue Deeks described Prisoner as “an authentic, complex and compelling portrait of the harsh realities of life in prison, where it isn’t only the inmates who are trapped,”, while NPO’s Evelien Bloemena felt the A-list cast and story of “people with good intentions forced into difficult situations” is “a good fit for us as a public broadcaster.”
Created by Kim Fupz Aakeson with the co-directors Michael Noer and Frederik Louis Hviid, the series had its world premiere at the last Canneseries before its successful launch this fall on DR, SVT, NRK, Yle and RÚV.
