James Gibbons, EVP and GM Discovery UK & Nordics, will take over the responsibility for the US group’s operations in the Nordics.
Norrby joined the US conglomerate Discovery three years ago from TV4. Last September, when the group restructured its Nordic operations, he was promoted from his position as CEO for the Swedish branch, to head of the Nordics.
“Nicklas has unfortunately informed me that he chooses to leave Discovery,” said UK-based James Gibbons, EVP and GM Discovery UK & Nordics in a statement. “I have had the pleasure of working with him and am impressed by his passion and determination to make Discovery even more successful in the Nordics. He has made a big impression in the organisation and he will be greatly missed. During the last six months, we have created a new Nordic organisation and started to implement a new, aggressive digital strategy with discovery+ all over the world and here in the Nordics, and will continue with full force in that direction.”
The US group rolled out its streamer discovery+ on January 5 in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, in replacement of its existing Dplay service.
Its new long-term multi-platform deal with UK telco Vodafone, set to roll out between 2021-2022, will also makes its content available to 12 new territories including Iceland.
