Marius Holst's King of Devil's Island (photo) was crowned Best Film at Norway's 2011 Amanda film awards ceremony held on Saturday during the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund. Maria Sødahl 's Limbo won the most statuettes (5) . Both films were supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Aside its top award for Best Norwegian Film in Theatrical Release, King of Devil's Island won Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Trond Nilssen) and Best Music (Johan Söderqvist). The film produced by 4½ is this year's biggest Norwegian success - so far - with over 275,000 admissions for Euforia Film. Limbo's two leading ladies Line Verndal and Lena Endre received Best Actress and Best Actress in a Supporting Role respectively. Sødahl's feature debut produced by SF Norge also won Best Cinematography (Manuel Alberto Caro), Best Production/Art Design (Niels Sejer) and Best Sound Design (Hugo Ekornes). Alligator Film's thriller Nokas was awarded two major Amandas for Best Director (Erik Skjoldbærg) and Best Script (Christopher Grøndahl) and Filmkameratene's The Troll Hunter which was the second biggest hit in 2010, logically took the Audience Award or People's Amanda plus Best Special Effects (Marcus B Breodersen and Øystein Larsen).
Two of Anne Sewitsky's films - Happy, Happy and Totally True Love - won an Amanda each for Best Actor (Henrik Rafaelsen) and Best Editing (Christoffer Heie).
The Amanda for Best Children's Film went to the animated film Elias and the Treasure of the Sea and the Honorary Award to the experienced actor Bjørn Floberg.
The annual Amanda awards ceremony transmitted live on TV2 was a prelude to the Norwegian International Film Festival which ends today.
