DR Ultra’s series Klassen for 7-12 years old won Best Web format at the prestigious Prix Europa in Berlin.

This is the second major festival award for the drama series Klassen (The Class) produced by Denmark’s STV for DR Ultra, after its Innovation Award collected at Malmö’s Nordic Kids Media Festival mid-September.

Klassen and Skam are very similar both in format and in content, although STV producer Morten Ryberg Dannisboe said NRK’s cult series was already on air when he first heard about it. Instead of the Norwegian high school kids featured in Skam, Klassen focuses on a Danish primary class room and the school kids’ everyday problems-small and big. Both series are based on in-depth research within the target groups and each episode is made available via the web, social media and linear TV.

So far STV has produced 150 episodes of 10-12 minutes for DR Ultra. The third season of 36 episodes aired between August 28 and October 13, 2017. The first season had record ratings with around 242,000 viewers per episode across all platforms.

According to DR, more than 6,000 Danish kids and youth contributed to the show’s storyline. Klassen will also air on DR Ultra as a Christmas calendar series this December. A Swedish version of 52 episodes -also called ‘Klassen’ and produced again by STV- will be broadcast by SVT this Christmas.
