The Danish horror film just picked up by LevelK will be introduced at the Frontières Proof of Concept presentation in Cannes on May 18.
Breeder is the second feature by writer/director Jens Dahl (3 Things), based on a script by Sissel Dalsgaard Thomsen (The Return). Amalie Lyngbo Quist and Maria Møller Christoffersen are producing for genre production house Beo Starling.
In the film, an experiment involving biohacking traps a young couple in a dangerous and disorienting situation. In nightmarish ways, the experiment questions basic human behaviour by asking: How far will we go to stay young forever.
The film supported by the Danish Film Institute will start production in September 2019.
Tine Klint’s CEO LevelK who handles world sales as well as Danish distribution with Blockbuster told nordicfilmandtvnews.com: “I got intrigued by Breeder because of Jens Dahl’s horror take on biohacking and the female angle from scriptwriter Sissel Dalsgaard Thomsen. “
This is the second collaboration for LevelK and Beo Starling after Cutterhead by Rasmus Kloster Bro. “A strong and clear genre film has more possibilities for world distribution than arthouse these days,” noted Klint.
Breeder is among eight genre projects that attended the Nordisk Film & TV Fond supported Frontières Finance & Packaging Forum in Helsinki last February, ahead of their presentation in Cannes.
Other selected projects include:
The third Frontières Platform is co-organised by the Fantasia International Film Festival and the Cannes Marché du film, with support from Wallimage, the Netherlands Film Fund, Screen Ireland, Telefilm Canada and SODEC.
