Run by Rasmus Thorsen, Tomas Hostrup-Larsen and Anja Kempinski Nemeth, Cosmo Film is one of Denmark's most dynamic production outfits. The new agreement with Nordisk Film covers distribution of all feature films and TV productions for the next two years. "We want to give local production the best conditions possible. With our unique distribution set-up we strive to give all the good stories from our creative partners a perfect lift-off and a long and rewarding life in the market" said Nordisk Film Acquisition Manager for the Nordic region Lone Korslund.
The first project part of the deal is the feature film version of Cosmo Film's cult TV series Lærkevej, produced for TV2 Danmark. Filming starts in July. Other projects include the thriller Atlantic Privateer about the biggest drug crime in Scandinavia, and A Place Under the Sun by director/writer Martin P. Zandvliet (Applause), to be co-produced with Germany. Based on a script by Zandvliet and Nikolaj Steen, the film is set during post WW2. It focuses on a dark chapter of Danish history, when German war-prisoners were forced to clear the Danish coast of about 2.2 million land mines. Mikael Ch. Rieks is producing for Cosmo Film. Filming is set start in 2012.
Aside its own production company Nordisk Film Production active across Scandinavia, Nordisk Film's affiliate production companies include A. Film A/S, Copenhagen Bombay, Fine & Mellow, Zentropa in Denmark, Maipo Film & TV, Neofilm in Norway, Fladen Film in Sweden, Matila Röhr Nordisk Oy, and Solar Films in Finland.
