Benedikt Erlingsson’s eco musical thriller turned all of its 10 nominations into awards at Iceland’s Edda Film & TV awards ceremony held on Friday in Reykjavik.
Iceland’s Oscar entry and Nordic Council Film Prize winning film picked up Edda statuettes for Best Film, Director, Screenplay (shared between Erlingsson and Ólafur Egill Egilsson), Actress (Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir) and in most technical and behind the scene categories including Cinematography (Bergsteinn Björgúlsson), Editing (Davíð Alexander Corno), Production Design (Snorri Freyr Hilmarsson), Sound (Aymeric Devoldere, Francois De Morant, Raphael Sohier, Vincent Cosson) and Visual Effects (Cem Olcer, Stephane Vogel, Annabelle Zoellin).
Music composer Davíð Þór Jónsson who shared with Erlingsson the Harpa Nordic Music award a week ago in Berlin, also picked up an Edda for Woman at War’s original score. The inventive environmental tale of Halla (50) who takes on the big local aluminium industry was produced by France’s Slot Machine and Erlingsson’s Gulldrengurinn.
Baldvin Z’s drama Let Me Fall which had 12 nominations, earned four Eddas for Best Supporting Actor (Þorsteinn Bachmann), Supporting Actress (Kristín Þóra Haraldsdóttir), Make Up (Kristín Júlla Kristjánsdóttir) and Costumes (Eva Vala Guðjónsdóttir). The film produced by The Icelandic Film Company was the second biggest grosser of 2018 in Iceland.
Other major awards went to: -Gísli Örn Garðarsson-Best Actor for his role in Börkur Sigþórsson’s drama Vultures (RVK Studios) -Ploey, You Never Fly Again by Arní Ólafur Ásgeirsson (Gunhil) -Best Children & Youth Film -UseLess by Rakel Garðarsdóttir and Ágústa M.Ólafsdóttir -Best Documentary Film -Manners by Maria Reyndal, produced by Glass River for RÚV-Best TV Programme
Nordisk Film & TV Fond was associated to 15 Edda wins for Woman at War, Let Me Fall and Ploey, You Never Fly Alone. The 20th Edda awards handed out by the Icelandic Film & Television Academy were announced live on Iceland’s public broadcaster RÚV on Friday.
